Why new strut bearings?

NGP Racing offers (and recommends) replacement strut bearings for all VW and Audi vehicles that use them. Many people may not be familiar with what a strut bearing is or why they need to be replaced, so we've come up with this brief tutorial on what they are, and why it is wise to replace them when installing your new suspension...

A strut bearing is used at the top of all front (not rear) strut type suspensions. The strut, as an integral part of the front suspension assembly, must be able to turn freely as you turn the wheel left to right. The strut bearing is what allows this to happen. The strut bearing is typically comprised of two parts, the bearing and the bushing. On more modern cars these are two separate pieces, on older cars they are joined together. Being at the front of the car, these parts take a beating on every bump, dip and pot-hole that you hit. The bearings can become damaged and will bind / pop and make noise, as well as allow for play at the top of the strut. The rubber bushing will gradually become compressed and will no longer properly cushion the assembly in the strut tower. All of this adds up to a rougher ride, poor handling and increased tire wear due to changing alignment, and overall poor performance.

Installing new strut bearings will allow the car to be aligned properly, and will ensure you get the handling you desire with your new sport suspension. They are sold by the pair, and they require no extra labor when installing them with a new suspension.

I purchased this at waterfest, but it had to be shipped as they were out of stock there, but had some in store. Firstly, NGP was great to deal with. I got the same WF price (500 FREE SHIPPING!) and they got to my house in 4 days total. Purchased sunday, arrived thursday.
All emails I sent were responded to in a timely manner.
Now to the goods.
Opening the box, these are very nice looking coils. The install was fairly easy and I would recommend at least trying it yourself. You may need some help as many times a second pair of hands was more than helpful.
They ride fairly smoothly. Although I'm still within the first week of ownership, they aren't too bouncy, and the ride feels decidedly stock, maybe a little stiffer. Not at all uncomfourtable. They go FAIRLY low. The front is tucked enough on 18's (ASA AR1's) that you can't get one finger in there. There is still about 8 or so threads left to go too, which is around .65-1" lower. The rear, IMO, could go lower. It is all the way down and has a little less than a 2 finger gap in there. That said, I am running no rear seats, spare, or tool kit. And when you pull those items on the stock suspension it moves up about 1-2"... so if I re-installed them, I'm sure it would be TUCKED. Also note that the rear perches (which can be removed for around another inch) are still in.
The front coils do rub a little. Just a tiny bit though, and I am sitting tucked on an 18x8" wheel, so it's to be expected. I would recommend some spacers. I have H&R 3mm in the front, none in the rear. My buddy has aristos (18x7.5) and he is running 5mm, they're about even width wise. The rear's don't rub on the coils at all.
They could be a little stiffer, and a little lower. But for now, they are an awesome system from a good company, and they are very little money. I'd say comparable to v-maxx, maybe a little better. AND 100 dollars cheaper.
